Birsa Munda
Ultra legend tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda was born on 15 November 1875 in a Munda tribal family in Ulihatu village of Khunti district of Jharkhand state. His parents’ name was Sugna Munda and Karmi Hatu. We know Birsa Munda as the tribal freedom fighter and folk hero of India. He was accepted as God by the people of the tribal community and even today people of Jharkhand call him as God and Earth Abba. At the young age of 25, he had achieved such a great position that people all over India remember him as a freedom fighter and the picture of the only tribal freedom fighter is hanging in our Indian Parliament.

The legend of tribal freedom fighter of odisha birsa has played an important role in the Indian freedom struggle, against the British rule and against the rule of landlords. This movement is known as “Birsa Ulgulan”. He gave the slogan “End the queen’s rule and establish our empire”.

In the year 1990, a movement was announced by Birsa Munda against the British and started the gorilla war by uniting all the tribals. A reward of ₹ 500 was placed by the British on the arrest of Birsa Munda. Birsa Munda was arrested by the British on 3 February 1990, along with 460 tribals were also arrested. He died mysteriously on 9 June 1900 in Ranchi Jail. The British government declared the cause of death of Birsa Munda as cholera. Due to his death in a mysterious way, even today people have not been able to know the exact reason and people believe that he was killed by poisoning.
Even today people remember the public welfare works done by Lord Birsa and the freedom struggle fought against the British rule and he is worshiped by the people of tribal community of Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal.
