Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on 2 October 1904 in a common class family. Father Sharada Prasad, mother Ram Dulari, wife Lalita, home of Mughal Sarai Shastri near Varanasi. He was educated up to the matric and took an active part in the 1921 non-cooperation movement. He was arrested. He then attended the Kashi Vidyapeeth. Shastri graduated there.
It is remarkable that he joined the ‘Servants of the Society’. The people of Uttar Pradesh were seduced by their honesty, helplessness and efficiency. He was twice elected secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. Elected to the United States Legislature in 1937. He became Minister of Home and Transport in independent India in 1947.

He gave up that position for party work. When Nehru fell ill, he was appointed as a non-accountable minister. When Nehru died on May 27, 1964, Lal Bahadur Shastri became the Prime Minister of India.
In 1965, during the war between India and Pakistan, security forces allowed cross-border crossings to protect the country. He agreed to leave the occupied territories and return to the peace process once the war was over. During the war, he declared to the country, “Jai Jawan! Jai Kisan! ”
On January 10, 1966, Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri died in a heart attack in Tashkent, Soviet Central Asia. Shastri, the most sincere, simple, loyal and efficient leader, was honored by the Government of India with the posthumous “Bharat Ratna” award.
