Harekrishna Mahatab (November 21, 18-22) was a writer and leader of the Indian National Congress. He served as the Chief Minister of Odisha from 18 to 50. He is also known as Utkal Keshari.

Harekrishna Mahatab was born on November 21, 18 in Agarpada, Bhadrak district of Odisha. His father’s name was Krishna Charan Mahatab and his mother’s name was Tohfa Devi. After passing from Bhadrak High School, he takes admission at Ravenshaw College Cuttack. But in that time he left from college in 1921 and join in the freedom movement.

In 1923-24, Harekrishna led the Odisha People’s Movement and imprisoned it. From 1927 to 1926, he was elected Chairman of the Baleshwar District Board. In 1926, he was elected a member of the then Bihar-Odisha state.
In 1930-31, he was imprisoned twice for leading the Salt Satyagraha and the illegal movement in Inchudi, Balasore. In 1936, he was elected a member of the All India Congress Executive Committee and remained in office for 14 years.
He joined the Odisha State Congress in 1936 as president. In 1936, he was elected a member of the Executive Committee of the National Congress. He served as the Chief Minister of Odisha from 18 to 1950 and again from 1958 to 191.
