He was born on the full moon day of the month of Shravan (August 4, 1922) in the village of Barpali in undivided Sambalpur and present-day Bargarh district. The poet’s jubilee is celebrated in Odisha according to Indian dates, not according to English dates.
He began his career as an Amin in 1955 and retired from government service in 1918 as a seal. He died on April 4, 1927, on the day of the Chaitra New Moon.
