As a poet, the well-known Kuntala Kumari Sabbat, the ubiquitous novelist of the Oriya language, is also claiming glory. No Oriya writer had ever written a novel before him. Kuntala Kumari, who wrote poetry in Oriya and Hindi as well as Oriya, was born on February 6, 1901 in Jagdalpur.
His childhood and adolescence were spent in a non-Odia environment in Burma. So he became acquainted with the Hindi language from the beginning. However, he learned Oriya with the help of ‘Madhu Barnabodh‘, ‘Shishupath‘, ‘Sahitya Kusum‘, ‘Sahitya Tarang‘, etc. in his domestic endeavors. Later, he returned to Odisha to study at Ravensa Girls High School in Cuttack.
After graduating from ninth grade, Girls dropped out of school and enrolled in medical school. In 1921, Kuntalakumari scored the highest marks in the Bihar and Odisha Medical Board examinations. He won 14 silver and gold medals.
