Tirath Singh Rawat is an Indian politician. Tirath Singh Rawat, born and brought up in a small village of Siro in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, holds a Masters in Sociology from Hembati Nandan Garhwal University, Srinagar.
Along with interest in social service, he was also active in student politics and was also a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and organization minister. He has also worked with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as a Pracharak. He is one of the early members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has also served two months’ imprisonment for his active role in the Ram Mandir movement.
Although his legislative life began as the Legislative Councilor of Uttar Pradesh, he was fully involved in the struggle for a separate Uttarakhand state and when this Himalayan state was made a separate state, he became its first education minister. He has also been the President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Uttarakhand State Unit and National General Secretary.
After being elected Lok Sabha MP from Garhwal parliamentary constituency on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket in the 2019 general elections, he also became a member of several standing committees of Parliament. On 10 March 2021, he took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
Suddenly within four months, Tirath Singh Rawat had to resign from the post of Chief Minister due to constitutional reasons. In fact, he was a member of the Lok Sabha when he became the Chief Minister and needed to become a member of the Legislature Party within six months to continue as the Chief Minister. Although the two assembly constituencies of the state, Haldwani and Gangotri, were vacant for the by-elections, there is little chance of elections in view of the term of the state legislative assembly ending early next year
